Early Learning Scholarships
Early Learning Scholarships provide crucial financial support for families in Minnesota, offering up to $8,500 per child to help cover the costs of high-quality early care and education. These scholarships ensure that young children have access to the educational foundation needed for a successful start in school. Families can use these funds at any child care or early education program that participates in the Parent Aware Quality Rating System.
Eligibility for Early Learning Scholarships
To qualify for an Early Learning Scholarship, families must meet the following criteria:
- Residency: Must live in Minnesota.
- Child’s Age: Must have a child who is age 3 or 4 by September 1 of the current school year and not yet eligible for kindergarten.
- Income: Must have an annual household income at or below 185% of the Federal Poverty Guideline (see the income chart in the application instructions).
Early Learning Scholarships are now available statewide! Families can apply regardless of their county of residence, including the nine counties of Region 8: Cottonwood, Jackson, Lincoln, Lyon, Murray, Nobles, Pipestone, Redwood, and Rock.

- Increased Funding: Families choosing programs with a 4-star Parent Aware rating are now eligible for up to $8,500 per child annually.
- Application Timeline: Scholarships can be awarded starting July 1 for children who will be 3 years old by September 1 of that year.
- Expanded Access: Scholarships are now available across Minnesota, with no residency restrictions by county.
